Who I Work With

I am passionate about working with teens and adults who find themselves struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, and their sexuality or gender.

Moms have a special place in my heart, at any stage of parenting.

Most of the mothers I work with aren’t in crisis. They’re tired. They snap more than they mean to. They reach for their phone when their kid is trying to tell them something, and then they feel the distance between that and the mother they want to be. That gap is workable, and closing it is much of what we do together.

A lot of what drives it was handed to you long before you had children. You don’t have to call your childhood anything in particular to notice that some of it is still running. What you get to decide is what gets handed down next.

I work to create an environment of connection and care, without judgment, where you can come to a better understanding of yourself and how you relate to others. Many people arrive in counseling having never said some of this out loud, or feeling overwhelmed with no idea why. That’s a normal place to start.

How I Work

We will work together as a team, discovering the best path forward for you. You are as unique as your story, so our work together will be catered to your needs, at your pace. Together, we will explore and address what brought you in — and we’ll also work to discover how the coping skills you developed in childhood are causing stumbling blocks for you today.

That’s usually the heart of it. The strategies that kept you safe when you were young don’t stop running just because you grew up. They keep operating, quietly, and they start costing you things — in your relationships, in your work, in how you talk to yourself. Finding them is most of the work. For some people the Enneagram speeds that up — it puts a name to the strategy you default to. Once you can see a pattern, you have a choice about it that you didn’t have before.

We’ll build practical skills along the way, because relief matters and you need something that helps this week. But I’m not interested in handing you coping strategies for a life that isn’t working. Underneath the symptom there’s usually a pattern, and underneath the pattern there’s usually a story. That’s the part I want to understand with you.

When faith is important to you, we bring it into the room. When it isn’t, we don’t. Both are fine, and I’ll follow your lead rather than assume.

COMMON QUESTIONS

No. I’m a Christian and this is a faith-integrated practice, but I work with people of any faith or none. Faith comes into the room because you bring it, not because I do.

Both. I see clients in person at our Katy office and online throughout Texas. Online sessions work well for most of what I do, and they make it possible to keep going when life gets in the way — a sick kid, a work trip, a week you can’t get across town.

Restoration Therapy is a model that helps you identify the specific feelings and coping behaviors you fall into under stress — usually learned in childhood — and interrupt them in the moment rather than analyzing them afterward.

Dr. Yarhouse developed sexual identity therapy, the framework we use for questions about faith and sexuality. Its defining feature is that it’s non-prescriptive — the therapist doesn’t hold a goal for where you land. My training with him is why I can hold both your faith and your experience as real at the same time, without steering you toward a conclusion.

My training with Dan Allender is in understanding the story underneath what’s happening now. Rather than treating a symptom in isolation, we look at where it began and what it’s been protecting you from. It tends to be slower than symptom management and it tends to hold longer.

Yes. I’m currently accepting new clients, and you can book a session online or reach out with a question first if you’d rather.

Sometimes, when it’s useful to you. The Enneagram describes the coping strategy you built early on — what you reach for under stress, and what it’s protecting. That’s the same ground we’re working on anyway, so for some people it puts language to a pattern faster than we’d otherwise get there. It’s a starting point, not a diagnosis, and it isn’t required to work with me.
